"In The Spotlight" 2009 Winter Schedule:Baptism of Our Lord, January 11 “A Time for Accepting My Beauty” with Sr. Virginia Stone, BVMLooking forward to the new year ahead, let’s explore the more contemplative side of our spiritual journey – calling us to spend some quiet time reflecting on the presence of god in our lives, in the lives of others and how that presence impacts the world. Sr. Virginia Stone is spiritual director, spirituality consultant for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and director of the Spiritual Mentoring Program. Second Sunday in Ordinary Time, January 18 “Learning to Trust My Giftedness. . . Taking Off My ‘Shoes’” with Sr. Virginia Stone, BVM Continuing our journey of ‘going within’, let us consider the challenges to deepne our own sense of integrity while trusting the gifts we have been blessed with. Third Sunday in Ordinary Time, January 25 “We Are God’s Work of Art: Orchestrating Vibrational Alternatives!” with Sr. Virginia Stone, BVM In this time together we will consider the challenge bringing our gifts and our sense of integrity to bear on a beautiful, broken world in need of healing. Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, February 15 “Called to Be Mystics and Prophets” with Miriam Brown, OP Bede Griffiths, monk, mystic, and elder, said that ours is an exciting time to be alive. “An age like this compels you to be serious about God and change!” It calls us to be who we are by Baptism: mystics attunded to God’s endless love and prophets committed to make this world a just and hopeful place for all. The Spirit is moving and so we should be, too. Jesus challenges us to have “eyes to see” god’s work in the wordl and the contribution we can make as mystics and prophets in this age in need. Seventh Sunday in Ordinary time, February 22 “MARY – In the Muslim Scriptures” with Jana Najeeb Many are unaware that there is an entire chapter in the Muslim Holy book, the Quran, dedicated to mary and that many Muslim scholars consider her a Prophet. She is the only woman mentioned by name in the quran, and there are more references to her in the Quran than in the Bible. Come and experience the lvoe and reverence that Muslims have for Mary. First Sunday of Lent, March 1 “Cross Purposes” with the Acacia Theatre Company A heartwarming retelling of th events of Jesus’ last week in Jerusalme, as told through the eyes of a merchant, the soldiers, Judas and two bumbling con artists. Second Sunday of Lent, March 8 “Identifying Common Features in Life’s Transistions” with Rev. Andre Papineau Although we go through many different transitions in the life cycle, there are some common features in all our transitions. Being aware of them can help us be more prepared to go through them. Fifth Sunday of Lent, March 29 “When Transistions Are Conversion Experiences” with Rev. Andre Papineau The different Transitions we go through are potentially religious experiences even if we had never thougth of them as being spiritual or had even wondered if God had left the scene in our momnets for confusion. Being awre of the potential for even the most “irreligious” of our experiences as spiritual might prove that God is closer to us than we are to ourselves in the midst of them. Come and join us for the following Spotlight Presentations! Mark your calendars! Bring a friend! Pass on the good news! |
