Right (Write) from the Heart: Action Alert on Immigration
Submitted by Marguerite Thompson
Our Catholic Social Teachings, expounded upon by Pope Francis and our U.S. Catholic Bishops, continue to raise a flag of concern on behalf of some of our most vulnerable immigrants.
When issues in our world strike us in the heart, there is a powerful way for our one small voice to be heard, and that is through writing to our legislators and other influencers.
Your short letter in your authentic voice has more influence than a thousand form letters. Join us for a half hour to sit down and write short letters together addressing issues that impact our Catholic values – our Catholic Social Teachings. A list of addresses of legislators and envelopes will be provided. Let’s work on forming our consciences through true listening to one another and acting in the world around us. “We recognize the need for just immigration enforcement and affirm the government’s obligation to carry it out in a targeted, proportional, and humane way. However, non-emergency immigration enforcement in schools, places of worship, social service agencies, healthcare facilities, or other sensitive settings where people receive essential services would be contrary to the common good.” – USCCB
“We need to participate for the common good. Sometimes we hear: a good Catholic is not interested in politics. This is not true: good Catholics immerse themselves in politics by offering the best of themselves so that the leader can govern.” – Pope Francis
