Season for Nonviolence:
Be the Change

The Season for Nonviolence is from January 30, the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination, to April 4, the anniversary of the assassination of Dr Martin Luther King Jr. During these 64 days we are invited to work towards creating a culture of nonviolence in our lives and our communities.

The goal of the Season for Nonviolence is to inspire individuals to make daily nonviolent choices and to take action centered around the five pillars of nonviolence: respect, understanding, acceptance, appreciation, and compassion. These are all virtues that Jesus practiced, and that we, as His disciples, are called to practice in our lives.

Each person who signs up for this program (based out of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Milwaukee) will receive an email describing a specific way to live non-violence for the week. The topics will deal with violence as it is suffered in various ways: hunger, racism, incarceration, etc. and how we can counter the many types of violence by the way we live. Scriptural quotes on the issues will be included as well.
