Deacon Gene Outreach Committee: Supporting the Good Work of Social Justice
Recently the Outreach committee gave to the following groups:
Ezekiel Hope – $500 From their vision statement: “To form a collaborative of existing, complementary agencies dedicated to improving Milwaukee’s inner city by rehabilitating houses, utilizing local minority contractors, local residents, and fostering homeownership. The goal of this effort is to unite Milwaukee-based minority businesses to more successfully participate in significant opportunities in leadership roles through education, training and advocacy. We accomplish this by providing a practical vehicle to train businesses and individuals in technical, professional, and social skills through on-the-job training.”
New Ways Ministries -$1000 New Ways Ministry is a Catholic outreach that educates and advocates for equity, inclusion, and justice for LGBTQ+ persons, equipping leaders to build bridges of dialogue within the Church and civil society. Some of New Ways Ministry’s core commitments include promoting dialogue and reconciliation grounded in the unity and diversity of the Body of Christ (I Cor 12:12), supporting research and resources that empower pastoral ministers and educators to advance an intersectional understanding of gender identity and sexuality and fostering holiness and wholeness within the Catholic LGBTQ+ community and allies through spiritual programs and resources.
What If? Foundation – $1500 The What If Foundation raises awareness and resources to support critically needed food, education, and community support programs in the Ti Plas Kazo neighborhood of Port-au-Prince, and beyond. They work in close partnership with the Haitian grassroots organization Na Rive, which has deep roots in the community as well as the know-how and local relationships to have a significant impact on the ground. Together, they have joined forces to bring hope and opportunity to children and their families for over 20 years. The programs they support include food, education, disaster relief, and pilot projects.
