Conversations in the Spirit – A Listening Experience
These past four Wednesday evenings in September, parishioners have been gathering in Daniels Hall to listen to one another. In the spirit of the worldwide Synod on Synodality, we have been having Conversations in the Spirit, hearing from one another about what we are thinking and perceiving on a range of issues affecting us as Church locally and more broadly.
Some of the questions we have explored have been:
- What do you hear as a call from the Holy Spirit at this time in your life?
- How are we doing with welcoming, hospitality and ministry in our parish? Who may not feel welcome?
- How can we make our “spaces” attractive (and welcoming)?
- How can we walk together with young people?
- What constitutes legitimate authority in the Body of Christ and how should it be exercised?
- How do we encourage the participation of women, young people, minorities and marginalized voices in discernment and decision-making?
Notes by participants in these conversations on various topics have been taken and will be shared in the coming weeks. Our next steps will be to continue ways we can really listen. As we enhance our ability to hear what others are saying, we can better hear what God is saying to all of us through one another. More to come!
