Taste and See the Goodness of God
In today’s first reading, the Israelites are entering the Promised Land, freed from the slavery. They celebrate Passover and God’s goodness. Verses from Psalm 34 celebrate God’s goodness. The psalmist offers blessing, praise and thanksgiving. It’s clear that Israel’s God is worthy to be praised because this God not only hears the cry of the poor but also does something about it. God’s steadfast love responds to those in need, is healing and restores life. What a bridge to the gospel, where the son wants to return to the father but is filled with shame. God delivers those who seek. Truly see the goodness of God, especially as the community celebrates Eucharist!
I will never stop thanking God, with constant words of praise.
My soul will boast of God; the poor will hear me and be glad.
Join me in praising the Most High, together tell of God’s name.
I asked and God responded, freed me from all my fears.
Turn to God, be bright with joy; you shall never be let down.
I begged and God heard, took my burdens from me.
