Prayer Services for Immigrants

Submitted by Marguerite Thompson

Our US Catholic Bishops have been standing up publicly for the plight of immigrants in our country. At the core of their message is the dignity of every human person—no matter their circumstance. On October 22 and November 13, Catholics across the U.S. were invited to join in a national day of public witness for our immigrant brothers and sisters. This effort built on the binational Mass at the US-Mexico Border in San Luis, just 10 days earlier on October 12, in which bishops from both countries called attention to the urgent crisis facing migrants and celebrated the feast day of St. Cabrini, the patron saint of migrants, on November 13.

Recently our Justice Action Ministry (formerly the Racial Justice Ministry) hosted a prayer service for Immigrants based on this at our Peace Pole at the south entrance on November 15.  Not only can we participate nationally, but we can also join in local prayer services based on this encouragement by the US Catholic Bishops. Learn more about these public witnesses/prayer services at 1family.us and stay tuned to the bulletin for upcoming witnesses and prayer services for immigrants planned by the Justice Action Ministry (JAM).
