Here I Am, O Holy One;
I Come to Do Your Will

As we begin again our discipleship journey through Ordinary Time, we offer ourselves to God as obedient servants. Psalm 40 calls us to wait, listen, keep watch, testify. The “I” who sings “Here am I; I come to do your will” is not only Jesus or John the Baptist, but each of us. We are called to be aware of God’s presence and trust in God’s plan. In the context of this Sunday’s readings, doing God’s will means searching for Christ and then announcing Christ’s presence to others. Take time to pray the psalm response. What does it mean to be eager to do God’s will? Let us give gratitude to God who has done much for us.

I waited patiently for you, O God
and you stooped down to me, and heard my cry.
You put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to you.
Sacrifice and offering you do not desire;
but you have given me an open ear.
Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required.
Therefore, I said, “Here I am;
In the scroll of the book it is written of me:
my delight is to do your will; your law is within my heart!”

Your deliverance I have proclaimed in the great assembly.
I have not restrained my lips, as you well know, O God.
