Anti-Human Trafficking Month: We Are Making a Difference
By Michael Bloedorn
When we joined Good Shepherd, there was a bulletin article about the Anti-Trafficking Committee. At an informational meeting to learn more, we listened to the facts about sex-trafficking of minors in our area, and the entire state for that matter. My wife Lucy suggested I get involved because of my experience with child abuse and neglect situations working at the Department of Social Services. It was an opportunity to help educate parents and children and to help raise awareness of the problem in our community.
Prevention efforts like this are so important and have a broader impact than intervening after the exploitation and abuse occurs. In the recent past, doing advocacy meetings with State legislators has been rewarding.
