Support Ellacuria in a New & Old Way
Submitted by Ron Leonhardt
Tom Dueppen was a stalwart member of the Ellacuria Ministry and visited the community often. Besides our committee work, he also donated regularly to provide high school and college scholarships for students from Ellacuria. These are provided through Los Olivos CIS. Located in San Salvador, CIS was founded in 1993 to address the root causes of the civil war and develop a center for people-to-people exchange and accompaniment of Salvadoran communities in their pursuit of social and economic justice and participatory democracy. It provides hundreds of scholarships in dozens of communities to help underprivileged students get an education, develop leadership skills and give back to their home communities.
Scholarships are not part of the work of the Ellacuria committee. The Ellacuria Fund supports sustainable community projects requested by Ellacuria’s governing body. If you are interested in assisting with scholarships, find out more at www.cis-elsalvador.org/programs-1. Tax deductible donations (noted as “Ellacuria Scholarships”) can be mailed to: LOS OLIVOS CIS, PO BOX 76, WESTMONT, IL 60559-0076
The Ellacuria Fair Trade Sale will be after Masses on March 14-15 to support our twinning relationship with Ellacuria with the sale of Chocolate Bars, Olive Oil, Coffee & Cocoa. Cash or check only, please. We have been in a parish relationship with our brothers and sisters in Ellacuria since 1990.
