Youth Columnist: Matthew 25 Workcamp

Submitted by Corinna Ramsey & Ian Spredeman

In the Social Justice Corner each month, we usually hear from an adult. This month, we hope you enjoy a reflection from one of our youth about his experience of being a part of social justice through service in his 2 years attending our Matthew 25 Workcamp:

Hello, I would like to talk about Matthew 25 Workcamp and the work I have done there. I like helping people, first and foremost. That is why I joined Matthew 25 in the first place, even though the work did not seem worth it at the time. But, I go to talk to other people around my age and have fun talking, just working together on moving furniture and checking inventory. I enjoyed myself during the talent show at the end of the week, while seeing the community that I was helping all along.

Most importantly, there is a sense of purpose to doing the work. When I go, I do not just help the Catholic community, I help people who truly need it. A fulfilling feeling of being important is all I need.

Matthew 25 Workcamp gives back to my community.
