In Thanksgiving for Our New Garden Ministry

Good Shepherd began a Garden Ministry in Spring 2025 led by Naomi Bruecker and dedicated parishioners: Tom Bruecker, Craig Tautges, Sandy George and her kids, Will Krupecki, Colleen and Dan Tatreau, Steve Schmit, and Peggy Leonhardt. With donated compost, seeds and plants from the Spredemanns, Judy Kuhn and LeRoy Gehring, other donations/fundraisers, and lots of sweat equity, the garden came to life and was officially blessed on June 8.

After taking turns watering, weeding, harvesting and taking food to the Menomonee Falls Food Pantry, all worked to provide a bountiful harvest of 563lbs of fruits and vegetables valued at $1,044. It was donated to and appreciated by Falls Food Pantry clients.

The Garden Committee members went into this project with different amounts of experience: from life-long to first-time gardeners. They enjoyed watching their plants bloom and grow. Their time and effort were well rewarded knowing they provided our community with fresh produce for people in need.

Finding God in nature and helping those in need is a great way to express gratitude to God. Thanks to the Garden Committee for doing that so well, and we look forward to seeing how the garden grows in 2026! Contact the parish office if you’d like to get involved.

“My family went into the garden with very little experience in the way of growing things. We learned so much! It was fun to watch all of the vegetables grow, and it felt good to help our community by donating so much produce to the food pantry.” ~Sandy George
