Justice Action in Community

Submitted by Linda Dreger

The Justice Action Ministry (JAM) just celebrated its fifth anniversary. JAM’s  mission: “To respect the God-given dignity of all human beings and creation, we strive for justice and peace through education, advocacy and participation in community, to build God’s kingdom.” The word “community” is central to this mission. Events that invite the community to join in our work like the recent public witness prayer services for immigration and “Immigration: Fiction, Facts and Faith” talk led by Darryl Morin, provide a space to learn together and connect with others on a personal level. Participants expressed that they felt consoled and empowered by insights they gained and conversations they had with other participants. In the words of Saint Teresa of Calcutta, “If we have no peace, we have forgotten that we belong to one another”. JAM creates this feeling of belonging for all, and invites us to join together in building the Kingdom.
