Two Good Shepherds Who Have Been Great Shepherds!

“The good shepherd knows his sheep, and his sheep know his voice. The presence of a good shepherd puts the sheep at peace. When he is near, the flock doesn’t panic, and they don’t argue. Because of the good shepherd, the flock can lay down in peaceful slumber.”

I have such fond memories of these two holy men, Fr. Peter Drenzek and Fr. Dennis Lewis. I have been blessed to know them, and further blessed to be able to call them friend. They will hold a special place in my heart for the rest of my life.

I am sure many of you reading this feel the same way I do. They have been so pastoral in their time with us, always willing to provide an anointing, or hear confession. Our welcoming atmosphere and vibrant Mass that we have become known for has happened in great part due to the presence of these two. Thank you both for this!

Here are two specific memories that help define them.

† Whenever I preach at a funeral and go to Fr. Dennis to ask for his blessing, he says, “Give them comfort. Give them hope.” Spoken like a good shepherd!

† Many times while in the sacristy with Fr. Peter preparing for Mass, someone says to him, “How are you?” Fr. Peter always responds, “Better than I deserve.” Thank you, humble servant and good shepherd of his flock.

Please join me in letting them know how much we love them!

Peace and blessings –

Deacon Sandy
