Blessings for Same Sex Couples
Submitted by Ann Castiglione
I have often thought about the awesome responsibility of a Pope; keeping a worldwide Church, with such diversity, together. With the news about Fiducia Supplicans allowing blessings for same sex couples, I knew there would be controversy. Fr. James Alison put it into perspective for me. He indicated that the document was based upon leaving church doctrine alone, but never using it to judge people. It allows us to “perceive people as blessable rather than comtemptible.” In his article on the New Ways Ministry January 23rd blog, Fr. Alison predicts progress will move slowly but quietly toward acceptance “that we LGBT people are not defective straight people.” It will advance too quickly for some and too slowly for others, but “advance it will.”
