Themes of Ongoing Racial Justice
Submitted by Beth Pitterle
Your Racial Justice Ministry Team is currently reading and discussing the late Senator John Lewis’ book, Across that Bridge: A Vision for Change and the Future of America. He shares many of his life experiences from the Civil Rights Movement, and outlines fundamental themes to consider in ongoing racial justice efforts: Faith, Patience, Study, Truth, Act, Peace, Love & Reconciliation. There are many thought-provoking messages within his book:
- The true work of social transformation starts within
- A commitment to Truth and Nonviolence
- The Importance of Building a Beloved Community
- We are all interrelated
- Activism can lead to positive change
Within the book he quotes Mother Teresa: “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love”.
We can all be agents of positive change!
