God Has Done Great Things for Us

As we sing Psalm 126 in response to our reading from Isaiah, we do well to consider how it fits our contemporary lives. We remember God’s goodness to us historically as well as the moments of salvation in our own lives. God gives us many “second chances.” Let us call to mind events and relationships that have brought consolation. Our challenge is to sing of God’s goodness with such faith and abandon that we will be ready to move forward into whatever it is that God calls forth in us now. Our God longs to save the downcast, brokenhearted, enslaved, marginalized, individuals and an entire people. (Adapted from a Commentary by Mary McGlone, CELEBRATION: a Comprehensive Pastoral Resource, published by The National Catholic Reporter Publishing Company, Inc., April 9, 2019.)

Our God brings us back to Zion,
we are like dreamers,
laughing, dancing, with songs on our lips.

Other nations say, “A new world of wonders!
Their God is with them.”

Yes, God, works wonders. Rejoice! Be glad!
God, bring us back as water to thirsty land.
Those sowing in tears reap, singing and laughing.
They left weeping, casting the seed.
They come back singing, holding high the harvest.
