The Best Day Ever!
Thinking back over the past year … What was the number 1 best day for you? Thinking back over 5 years, or 10 or 20 … What are the days that come immediately to mind?
(Before you read on, take a moment to think about this question.)
Perhaps you thought of a vacation, or a new job, or a new baby in the family, or a wedding, or a particular Packers or Brewers victory. Did any think … Easter! Easter Sunday!!
I have a feeling that if in the year 34 AD the apostles and living disciples were asked this same question, they would say immediately and emphatically, “The day Christ was raised from the dead!”
It is hard for us, all these years later, to conjure the same enthusiasm as the original disciples. In fairness, they lived it, we did not. This is why Christ, who appeared in the locked room on the very next day after He had risen, said to Thomas, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” Jesus knew it would be hard for us – harder than it was for the disciples.
Though we have now completed the season of introspection and contemplation that is Lent, let us continue to seek spiritual guidance and renewal. Let us extend our Advent and Christmas theme of Believe and Trust to now Live our faith. Let us join Pope Francis journeying with him on a Pilgrimage of Hope throughout 2025. I look forward to journeying with you.
He is risen! He is risen indeed!! Alleluia!!!
