Green Corner: Why Change to Natural Cleaners?
By Mary Kult
Many household cleaning products have been linked to an array of health issues such as asthma, allergies, cancer, hormone disruption and neurotoxicity. Also sobering has been the relationship between overuse of these powerful disinfectants and the rise of antibiotic resistant super bacteria and toxins in the water supply.
Some of the natural ingredients that you can use to replace these toxic cleaners include coarse kosher salt which helps soften dish washer water and acts as a scouring agent. Olive oil makes a great furniture polish to give that new shine.
I’ve mentioned vinegar many times, but I can’t say it enough. This is my favorite go-to, and it is so inexpensive. I keep a spray bottle in the bathrooms and kitchen. Instead of just wiping down the counter, I use vinegar to wipe it down. So, keep your things clean by being green.
